NOTE: The Texas LTC/CHL Class IS NOT a Beginners Shooting Class. You MUST KNOW HOW TO OPERATE AND SHOOT A GUN in order to pass the CHL Proficiency Test. DO NOT Register for this Class if you do not know how to shoot without making arrangments prior to the class to learn the basics. You can do that in our Introductions to Handguns and LTC/CHL Combo Course.

​CHL/LTC Class Only Information

LTC/CHL Fee Covers:​

  • Application can be completed online at the Texas DPS Website prior to, during, or after the class. Instructor can assist with the application

Students have 2 years after the class to file with the state. The classroom portion will last 4-5 hours followed by the live fire qualification. The classroom portion will be held in a safe, comfortable setting and will cover the following topics:

  • State Required Topics
  • Basic Firearms Safety
  • Safe Handling and Storage
  • Non-Violent Dispute Resolution
  • Use of Force
  • Civil Liability
  • Texas Concealed Handgun Laws
  • Review and Testing
  • The Texas License To Carry/Concealed Handgun License Class is what you need to Open Carry or Concealed Carry in Texas.
 
Students are encouraged to dress comfortably for the classroom portion. You will need a State issued photo ID to fill out the class paperwork.
The Texas License To Carry/Concealed Handgun Course is designed by the Texas Department of Public Safety for moderately experienced shooters.  The CHL class is approximately 4-6 hours of instruction followed by a short 50 round live round qualification.  It is not recommended for beginners.

Texas License To Carry/Concealed Handgun Licensing Process

1.

Attend our Class

 

Our classes are taught in a relaxed, comfortable, non-intimidating atmosphere. Due to the recent shortening of required hours of instruction by the State, you will need to know how to shoot and how to operate your gun before coming to class. The shooting portion of the curriculum is a Shooting Proficiency Test, not Basic Firearm Instruction. We cover the legal aspects of concealed carry, safe firearm handling and storage, the use of force and deadly force and nonviolent dispute resolution.

Fees for our Class:

  • $79 - Texas Concealed Handgun Licensing Course

  • $140- Introductions to Handguns and CHL Combo Course

 

Additional Cost on Class Date:

  • Range Fee (typically under $20 per person)

  • 50 rounds of ammunition

 

2.

Complete the Texas DPS Online Application (Click for Link)

 

Go to the Texas DPS website and register online.

Texas DPS Cost:

 

You can register with Texas DPS BEFORE you take our class or up to two years AFTER you take our class for a New License.

  • $140 - New License (5 years)

  • $70 - Renewal

  • Free - Active Military

 

For Veterans or citizens over 60, DPS fees are reduced by half (only one reduction, no combined reductions). For Active Military, the DPS fees are $0. Retired and Active Peace Officers and some members of the judiciary have reduced fees.

3.

Get Your Electronic Fingerprints

 

MorphoTrust USA has multiple locations around the Metroplex. Go online (when you complete your online application), book an appointment and they'll have you out of there in 10 minutes with a 98% acceptance rate.

  • $9.95 - Electronic Fingerprints (paid when you complete the Texas DPS Online Application)

4.

Upload Your Class Completion Certificate via the DPS website.

 

At the end of the class, we will present you with the CHL-100 Certificate of Proficiency

 

Once you've completed your online application and electronic fingerprints, simply upload above items to TX DPS. This is completed via the Contact Us (Click for link) option.  Your license will arrive in the mail within a few weeks.

Class Refund Policy

Private Class refunds are given back in full if more than one week (7 calendar days) cancellation notice is given.  If less than one week’s notice is given then 1/2 of paid course fee is refunded back to the student.  All cancellations within 72 hours of class date will forfeit class fee.  If possible, the Instructor will allow the student to choose another available class date for the student to attend but this is done on a case by case basis.
